Our story

The Progreso concept is simple: the utilisation of innovation and disruption to maximise the efficiency, productivity and transformational capability of business.

The roots of the Progreso concept, and the Progreso Group itself, stretch back to 2009, when the co-founders, Chris McMenemy and John MacSween, built the foundations of the Progreso concept. A concept built on the overarching belief that a carefully measured, and unique combination of innovation and disruption applied to traditional industrial sectors, could be revolutionary.

Over the next three years, Chris and John pioneered a number of industry firsts in the maritime sector, applying revolutionary technology such as 3D laser scanning into what, at the time, was a very traditional sector – marine engineering design.

After 3 years of refining the concept, Progreso took the next step in 2012, through the establishment of the group’s first brand – Cleanship – which was founded to apply the Progreso concept to the maritime environmental retrofit & consultancy industry.

Over the next 7 years, Cleanship built a solid reputation for pushing the boundaries of the maritime sector, helping pioneer many of the tools and techniques which today are commonplace. The company also grew significantly during this time, from just the two co-founders based in Glasgow, UK, to a team of over 50 engineers spread across four locations – UK, Turkey, Hong Kong and China.

As part of this growth, Progreso added further strength to its leadership team, bringing Stuart McKenna and Chris Woods onboard to help refine and grow the Progreso concept, as well as a number of key sector specialists who today form the leadership of many of our brands.

In late 2019, the team established the Progreso Group and concept formally, diversifying rapidly into a range of other sectors and applications, which form the basis of the Progreso Group today.
